Is an $800 Smart Toilet Actually Worth It?
I have long been a cold water bidet user. We are remodeling our master bathroom and I figured if we’re going to blow the money I might as well have a warm tushy cleaner.
After reading many reviews and watching way too many demo videos, I pulled the trigger on the EPLO iX7 Luxury Smart Bidet Toilet.
At the time of writing, it’s sitting at $799.99 on Amazon (20% off the $999 list price), with a strong 4.8 out of 5 stars from over 260 reviews.
We’ve had it installed and in daily use for a month now. Here’s the deal.
The Stuff That Makes It Feel Worth the Money
- Heated Seat: It’s pretty nice I’m not going to lie.
- Bidet Features:
- Warm water wash (front and rear)
- Customizable pressure
- Temperature and nozzle position-Temperature control is nice. Even has a hot cold mode that’s surprisingly refreshing
- Oscillating mode-Gets…thorough
- The warm air dryer actually works if you give it 45-60 seconds.
- Auto Open/Close Lid: It senses you approaching and lifts the lid (or you can kick the side or use the remote). No more seat-up/seat-down debates. Also, nice as I’m too lazy to lift the lid for my wife.
- Tankless + Auto Flush: Instant hot water, strong flush, and it automatically flushes when you stand. Manual backup if the power goes out.
- Night Light & Foam Shield: Soft glow for middle-of-the-night trips, and it drops deodorizing foam into the bowl before you sit (surprisingly effective at reducing mess). Foam is just body wash diluted 2 parts soap 3 parts water so it’s nothing fancy.
- Comfort Height: Nice taller seat—easier on the knees.
Installation was doable DIY in about 2 hours (standard 12-inch rough-in). No plumber required.
The Downsides (Because Nothing’s Perfect)
- Price Tag: $800 is a lot for a toilet. This is luxury territory.
- Needs Power: Requires a nearby outlet. If your bathroom doesn’t have one, add electrician costs.
- Remote Control Design: Buttons on literally every side of the remote is weird. I accidentally press buttons every time I pick it up.
Final Verdict: Worth It?
For our family: Yes. We use the bidet every single time now. It feels cleaner, uses way less toilet paper, and the heated seat, auto lid, and night light are daily quality-of-life wins. The auto flush, auto open/close seat are extra special features as it seems like they are the primary benefits of a smart toilet over a simple bidet.
If you’re on a tighter budget, start with a $50–100 bidet seat attachment—you’ll get 80% of the benefits for a fraction of the cost. My favorite is https://amzn.to/3L4J6kx
But if you want the full luxury package (auto everything, tankless design, built-in dryer), the EPLO iX7 is excellent and significantly cheaper than big-name brands like Toto.
My Rating: 8.5/10 – Expensive overkill for sure, but a legit upgrade that adds that extra touch to your bathroom experience.
